Caring for the Soul

A belief system is just a
collection of thoughts you accept as true.

Your life is your beliefs made into reality.

What we see and hear is what we think about.  What we think about is what we feel.  What we feel influences our reactions.  Reactions become habits and it is our habits that determine our destiny.

NLP - What is it?

When studying for my Indian Head Massage Diploma, I noticed a lot of the other therapists and people working in the alternative/complementary medicine fields had the letters NLP after their name.  I was intrigued and decided to find out more.  I discovered it means "Neuro-linguistic programming".
Neuro - pertaining to the nervous system (feelings)
Linguistic - pertaining to language (words)
Programming - Strategies employed to live our life.

The founders John Bandler and Richard Grindler discovered that by using thoughts, feelings and emotions and combining them with the language we use it was possible to programme our sub-conscious behaviour in order to achieve better, fuller and richer lives.  They found that by using NLP they could address the full range of problems that psychologists are likely to encounter such as phobias, depression, learning disorders, early years conditioning and a whole host of negative and dehabilitating conditions.

Your thoughts create the way you see the world.

Changing your thoughts will change your life.

Positive thoughts can change the world.

Negative thoughts create disorder and illness.

Thoughts influence other people.

Effective positive thoughts create a happy life.

NLP is about:

  • Enriched communication/rapport
  • Thinking patterns
  • Hypnotic language
  • Accessing the unconscious mind
  • Stratagies for successful living
  • Anchoring good feeling thoughts
  • Aligning
  • Well-formed outcomes
  • Writing your own life script
  • Resolving conflict
  • Giving and receiving feedback

CBT - What is it?
Cognitive Behavour Therapy.

About 10 years ago I was lucky enough to be offered a place through my children's school on a course called "Steps to Excellence".  This was being run by a local GP who discovered that a lot of chronic illness and depression could be avoided by adopting a different mindset.

Again, as with NLP, this system focusses on using the unconscious mind to bring about desired lifestyle events using powerful affirmations and goal-setting techniques.

It looks at self-talk and how damaging we are - TO OURSELVES.  We wouldn't talk to our family and  friends in this way so why do we self-sabotage ourselves?

Often the one big thing holding us back is self-esteem so a lot of work may be needed to build up confidence and see yourself as an achiever.

It looks at blame theories and how destructive this can be as people get trapped in the same old cycle instead of taking responsibility and then wondering why things don't change for them.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Written by Marianne Williamson and said in a speech by Nelson Mandela.

If you have a particular dilemma and don't know which way to turn or just need a bit of gentle guidance and direction, a session will probably consist of a combination of techniques suitable and unique for each individual to tackle their issue.  Sometimes all that is needed is a little bit of focus and some good strategies to see a way forward avoiding mental overload and using the sub-conscious mind to the greatest good for all concerned.

Out of our greatest rejection comes our greatest direction.

What happened in our past is not as great as what will happen in our future.

First there must be order and harmony within your own mind.  Then this order will spread to your family, then to the community and finally to your entire kingdom.  Only then can you have peace and harmony.  Confucius.

The only reason the mind continues its endless chatter, is because you haven't stopped listening to it yet!
