About me...

I am very fortunate to say I to live in a town called Verwood in Dorset, which I feel is one of the most beautiful counties in the country.  I have 3 young adults who all live with me and are very special people in my life.

In 2000 I lost my brother, Keith (aged 43), to leukaemia after a fairly short illness.  It  has led me on a spiritual journey which has culminated in wanting to work closely with people in a similar situation.  After this loss and the upheaval of divorce and starting again, I feel I have been to every workshop and sat in on every seminar imaginable and read a book by every author in the self help/personal growth/spiritual counselling section and finally ended up at a open day called the "Transitus Festival" in Sturminster Newton, Dorset.  This festival consisted of all aspects of dying from natural burials and funeral celebrants to soul midwifery and healing meditations.  This festival changed my life.  From here I met a lovely lady named Felicity Warner who teaches soul midwifery and thus my next journey began.

Transitus are a group of people who are actively working to break down the barriers and taboos surrounding how society perceive death and dying to make it a little less frightening and more acceptable to discuss.   After all, it is the one thing that every human being has in common with another - no exceptions.

Gentle Dying.

From meeting Felicity I began to realise that the transition from this world does not have to be frightening or alarming and can be greatly helped by someone who understands that we all have a unique way of living and dying and that most of us would probably want a loving presence to be with us, especially towards the end, and until we take our final breath.  In most cases family and friends can and do provide this loving presence.  However, family and friends are often struggling with their own  emotions at this traumatic time which can sometimes distort the transition. I believe we are all here to help each other in our own way and I feel this line of work is more of a calling than a career choice.

NLP and CBT

I have always been fascinated by the mind and how it works.  From a very early age I can remember asking my lovely Mum and Dad about the Universe but, of course, they didn't have all the answers I was looking for.  ("Where does the Universe end and what's on the other side?" to mention one burning question).  My journey has led me on a discovery path of psychology and spiritualism which I have found cross quite often.  Most concepts discussed in spiritual circles are also discussed in the fields of psychology and emotional awareness - where one ends the other often begins and has led me to believe that everyone has their own unique way of looking at the world and what works for one will not work for another.  This is often where people get "stuck" and the more we struggle, the bigger the problem appears to get (what a tangled web we weave)!  I have now learnt some useful techniques, tried and tested on myself of course, which NLP'ers and CBT people also apply and recommend.  These are very handy tools to have and I have seen the light switch on for many people!

Further training.

It doesn't seem to matter how much training I do and how many new skills I learn and qualifications I obtain, I am always still learning.  I think this is true of everyone for as long as they live.  We seem to live in a constantly changing and evolving "Earth School" and everyday I learn new lessons and have new experiences and meet new people.  I firmly believe that everyone that comes into my life is there for a reason, whether to teach me something or offer new opportunities for learning or simply to accompany me for while on my life journey.  I also believe I bring something to everyone I meet too, perceived as either good or bad, but always for a learning experience.  Maybe we learn the most from what we perceive as a "bad" experience.  A point for discussion perhaps.

Recognised training

I am currently training in Counselling Skills to enhance my listening ability. Level 3 is now completed and the Diploma is next!

I will also be doing a foot massage therapy course in the near future.

I have now taken my Masters course in NLP.  I find this a fascinating subject and have learnt lots about the sub-conscious mind and how to use it pro-actively.

First there must be order and harmony within your own mind.  Then this order will spread to your family, then to the community and finally to your entire kingdom.  Only then can you have peace and harmony.  Confucius.

The only reason the mind continues its endless chatter, is because you haven't stopped listening to it yet!
